The SHELF in SHELF MODELS comes from continental shelf. The continental shelf is the relatively shallow part of the ocean from the coastlines of the continents to the shelf break, the area where the shelf descends towards the deep ocean.
The continental shelf is rich in nutrients and it is where the majority of ocean life and human ocean activity takes place. SHELF MODELS focusses on this coastal zone, utilizing high resolution numerical models to simulate the relevant coastal processes.

SHELF MODELS is an independent consultancy firm, operated by me, Emiel Moerman. I hold an MSc. in Coastal Engineering from the Delft University of Technology. After my graduation I worked for 12 years (2010-2021) at Deltares (www.deltares.nl), in the role of senior metocean and numerical modelling specialist at the Harbour, Coastal and Offshore Engineering department. As life took me elsewhere I chose to continue my career self-employed and started SHELF MODELS (2022).
